A Reflection by her son:

Dear Mom,

Not a sound goes by when I don't hear your voice, not a moment goes by that I see your face. I spend many hours a day only wishing that I could have or should have, I might never understand the life God has given us or the life he takes away but for now I know you are in a better place. Mom, I only ask that you watch over my brother, my father, my nephews and nieces, my wife and my children so that we may all live the lives you have taught us to live. I will always remember you by the early bounce you always had no matter what, the struggles that you conquered, the guidelines you put in place. Just once, I ask God that I could hear you say, "Joelito" so I can smile and say "there is the mother I know". I feel so empty at times, I don't know what to do but I know I have to go on so I too can be honored by my children as I have honored you. Yes, I know there are Military Personnel, Police, Firemen, Stars, Athletes, and entertainers that many call heroes but I am here to say "Mother" that you are "My Hero" and I will make sure that one day I am too. I love you Mom, and I miss you so, so much. Continue to watch us from above and one day I will join you too. Until that day, I promise you - I will always remember you not as only my Mother, but my friend, my partner, and most of all “MY HERO” May you rest in peace.

Your son,

JOEL

This Reflection was dedicated to Maria Castillo at her services by her sons:

"If I Knew"

If I knew it would be the last time
That I'd see you fall asleep,
I would tuck you in more tightly
and pray the Lord, your soul to keep.

If I knew it would be the last time
that I see you walk out the door,
I would give you a hug and kiss
and call you back for one more.

If I knew it would be the last time
I'd hear your voice lifted up in praise,
I would video tape each action and word,
so I could play them back day after day.

If I knew it would be the last time,
I could spare an extra minute
to stop and say "I love you,"
instead of assuming you would KNOW I do.

If I knew it would be the last time
I would be there to share your day,
Well I'm sure you'll have so many more,
so I can let just this one slip away.

For surely there's always tomorrow
to make up for an oversight,
and we always get a second chance
to make everything just right.

There will always be another day
to say "I love you,"
And certainly there's another chance
to say our "Anything I can do?"

But just in case I might be wrong,
and today is all I get,
I'd like to say how much I love you
and I hope we never forget.

Tomorrow is not promised to anyone,
young or old alike,
And today may be the last chance
you get to hold your loved one tight.

So if you're waiting for tomorrow,
why not do it today?
For if tomorrow never comes,
you'll surely regret the day,

That you didn't take that extra time
for a smile, a hug, or a kiss
and you were too busy to grant someone,
what turned out to be their one last wish.

So hold your loved ones close today,
and whisper in their ear,
Tell them how much you love them
and that you'll always hold them dear

Take time to say "I'm sorry,"
"Please forgive me," "Thank you," or "It's okay."
And if tomorrow never comes,
you'll have no regrets about today.

Mom you lived for us and now we will live for you - Thanks for letting us say "We Love YOU"!

Your sons

Joel and Michael Castillo

Amelia M. Gonzalez

Amelia M. Gonzalez, our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend, passed away on Sunday January 29, 2006 at Rush-Copley Medical Center in Aurora. She was born on October 28th 1940 in Engelman Gardens, Texas to Juan Esmerejida (Mendoza) Martinez.

Amelia had worked for AT&T and for Dreyer Medical before retiring. She was a member of St.Theresa Church in Aurora and a proud member of the Northern Illinois Tejano Cultural Society, where everyone referred to her as "Grandma" and "Mom". She enjoyed her travels every year to Texas and the culture and entertainment Texas provided. Amelia enjoyed her Tejano Musica and loved to attend all the Tejano Festivals.

Most of all "Mom" / "Grandma" loved her husband, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Amelia M. Gonzalez is survived by her loving husband Apolinar Sr.; her children Mary Lou Gonzalez (Dave Goodwin), Apolinar Jr. (Christina)Gonzalez,Teresa (Lino)Gonzales, John Gonzalez, and Gloria (Joel) Castillo; her adored grandchildren - Stephanie (Dave) Menedez, Erica (Eric)Vargo, Jose (Michelle), Joshua, Stella, Alysha, Whitney, Janelle, Halie, Carissa Gonzalez, and Joel (Joey)Jr., Jessica, Julian, and Jenna Castillo; and her great grandchildren Devin, Adrian, Izabella, Cyann, and Nickolas.

Amelia M. Gonzalez was preceded in death by her mother Esmerejilda Martinez.

On behalf of the families of the Gonzalez and Castillo's, we would like to extend our sincere gratitude to all family and friends that were there during our time of need. Our wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Amelia M. Gonzalez, walked through the gates of Heaven on January 29, 2006.

To all of you who attended her services in person as well as in spirit - We Thank-You! The many lives touched by Amelia were overwhelming and beautiful to see.
There is no greater loss then the one we've just experienced but we want all of you to know that we will keep her "spirit" alive in all of us. She was the best of the best and we will miss her so. As we know, you will too. However, let us remember to celebrate her life and always remember all the "good times" she made possible!
A special Thank-you to the Gonzalez, Martinez, Trevino and Zepeda families and the Ybarra/DeMott children and to everyone that assisted in so many special ways. For everyone's support during these trying times, we give you our sincere gratitude.

Apolinar Gonzalez and Family

Grandma

I just need to get so much out I feel like I'm gonna explode. And it's all about Her. My Grandma. It's overwhelming how much I miss her. She's in my dreams all the time. But for some reason God needed her. But I need her.
My family needs her.

She has 14 Grandchildren. No offense to the younger generation 'cause she loved us all the same, but Steph, Jose, Josh , Me and Stella were the first generation of grandchildren. She practically raised us. Our parents had jobs 9-5. So in the morning it was off to Grandma's we go. I remember even calling her Mom sometimes by accident. I remember her watching The Price is Right and her Soaps everyday. Me and my Cousin's caused a lot of mischief though. One time Jose (my Brother) broke one of the window's in the porch. He was the baddest. But that didn't change her love for him. One time he threw a dart in Stella's head! She's the retard who listened to him when he told her to keep her head still. Oh and me and Stella used to fight like cats and dogs. Hey I'm two months older, I had to show her who was boss. We all kept Grandma busy. And I was also the slower one so I had to stay longer at school for kindergarten. Grandma always came to pick up Stella early, and I would watch them drive away and WISH so bad that
I could go home with them.

I remember one time when my Dad hit my Mom and we went to Grandma's house, the minute I walked through that back door she was there with open arms telling me everything would be ok. She made everything better. She always did. I could write all day and night about all the memories and of all the wonderful things about her. The way she lighted up a room with her smile. Her laugh. Her rice! And most importantly the way she loved each and every single person in her family.

BUT, the thing I remember the most about being at Grandma's house was nap time. She had a recliner like she's always had since I can remember. My Grandma loved her recliner. Anyway, She would sit on that and hold Stella in her arms and I would have to lie on the floor, on my belly right under her feet. She would massage my back with her feet while rocking Stella to sleep in her arms. Now even though it never failed to put me fast to sleep, I didn't always like this. I could never understand why I couldn't be in her arms. Why couldn't we take turns or something? But I remember the feeling of wanting so badly to be the one in my Grandma's safe secure arms it would hurt. But sadly those times are gone, so is my Grandma and here I'am…….a 21 year old woman with that same feeling I had when I was a little girl. The feeling of desperately wanting to be in my Grandma's warm comforting embrace. Wanting her to make it all better. To tell me everything's gonna be ok. Even though physically she can't be here to do that, I know that from Heaven, she's hugging all of us. Telling us all that everything is gonna be ok.

When I'm with my family……..when we laugh together , when the kids giggle, and when the babies smile, deep down in my heart I honestly feel that My Grandma is living through each and every single one of us. It's so hard to explain but I feel it. I feel her, and everywhere I go and everything I do, she's gonna be with me. With all of us.
We're all carrying her in our hearts.

Amelia - How special you were

Your presence was a gift to the world,
you were unique and one of a kind.
Your life was what you want it to be
You took one day at a time.

You counted your blessings, not your troubles,
and you made it through with what came along.
Within you, were so many answers,
Understanding, had courage, and to be strong.

Didn't put a limit on yourself;
your dreams were waiting to be realized. "Retirement"
you never left your important decisions to chance -
You reached for your peak, your goal, and your prize.

We'll always remember how very special you were
and always be in our hearts till eternity

Love,

Lupe Gandarilla

In Memory of Mark C. Perez
July 2, 1961 - November 2, 2003

As many of you know, Mark suffered a massive stroke on Tuesday, October 28th. Mark, at that time, was engaged in one of his passions -- he was at a luncheon discussing fundraising plans for the school and church. His time on the Fiesta Entertainment committee spoke to a huge level of commitment, focus, volunteerism, and work ethic. He used his capacities well to bring people together, organize, and continued to learn as he went along. With his volunteerism he gave our Fiesta, our communidad, a level of recognition to local people, national entertainers, and visitors from all over the country.
While Mark strived to be the professional he was, his style continued to exude a family and neighbor-to-neighbor connection. He never lost sight of this. His familia came with him on this journey - Rita, Lina, Melissa, Markie, brothers, sister, parents,
the list is so long . . .
To all the Perez family - we say thank you. Please know as a community we pray for you and all your loved ones. Also, as a community, we are here to support you - as your family has helped support the Fiesta, school, church and our culture.
