Scholarship Dance 2002

On Saturday July 27, the Northern Illinois Tejano Cultural Society held its annual Scholarship Dinner Dance to recognize the young people who received scholarship awards on behalf of the NITCS Scholarship Program. The recipients attending were Ruben Gandarilla and Jaqueline. Unable to attend were Javier Rios and Karina Suarez but were very worthy recipients.

NITCS received a very big surprise when Alderman David Marquez attended the event with some real good news for the NITCS Scholarship Program. " A Grant of $2,000.00" was awarded to the NITCS to continue efforts in providing additional education for other young people to also receive scholarship monies in 2003.

Also in appearance was Linda Chapa LaVia, Candidate for State Representative. Linda's speech, "The Key to Our Future" left the audience with reasons to vote and to continue to work together as "HISPANICS" of Aurora.

Then it was time for "Grupo Empeno". There performance brought down the roof and had everyone dances to the tunes of "Tejano Music". Grupo Empeno impressed the Northern Illinois Tejano Cultural Society and it's members by playing current hits and playing some real good "Oldies".
